The entire evolution started back in May 2009 with our first contact with Mitch at My Cruise Club. During the entire process of scheduling the cruise itinerary and making multiple changes, Mitch was extremely gracious and extremely competent in making sure that I and my family would have a wonderful vacation. As far as the cruise line is concerned, Holland America and the entire staff of the MS Noordam went over and above in meeting our expectations for service with a smile. From Captain Johannes Mateboer to every member of the crew with whom we had any contact, they made us completely comfortable and welcome. When asking about food, what else can you say but WOW!!! Our family was scheduled for the late seating (8:00pm) at a table for four and Norman was our waiter for the cruise. He and his assistants were most gracious and attentive to all of our needs and went over and above to make sure that our dining experience was one that we would not forget. We were made to feel very special by the little things such as having Iced Tea already poured for my wife and I and wine glasses in place for our daughters, at our place settings when we arrived at our table, and remembering that one of us coffee drinkers liked skim milk versus cream, and much, much more. Attention to the details was the trademark of everyone. As far as the food, since I am allergic to shellfish and basically shy away from any seafood, I was able to indulge myself with my fill of New York Strip Steak and Chicken, every night of the cruise except for the one night out in Old San Juan. Everyone else enjoyed the huge variety of choices available every night and no one left the table with and empty stomach. Again, thank you Norman for making our dining experiences so memorable. For shore excursions, despite the rain in Grand Turk, the girls went ashore and did a little shopping, while I relaxed quietly in the Crow’s nest lounge, sipping Diet Cokes. In Puerto Rico, our daughters went Zip Lining in the rain forest and my wife and I walked all over Old San Juan sightseeing and had a fantastic time. We all went snorkeling on the Castaway Girl excursion in St. Thomas. I only wish that a golfing excursion had been available while in St. Thomas. We had rain all day at Half Moon Key, and the girls went ashore for a while, while I, again, enjoyed the comfort of the Crow’s Nest lounge. In the future, we all look forward to taking another Holland America Cruise to Alaska. Don’t know when, but this will be next.
